Blogging – a study

Hummm, found this set of questions from Highlander’s blog, she was tagged by Sarah who is researching on ‘Middle Eastern women and blogs’ for her Master’s degree (Sorry am not middle eastern). Researchers have studied chatting, & now blogging!

1) Why did you start writing a blog? Was there a specific moment, event, of friend that urged you to begin writing?

I find the publishing world fascinating, it was a dream of mind to work in a publishing house, however it is not a lucrative job over here unlike in London or the Big Apple. It all started when I was introduced to the WWW, building homepages, yes I had a few and now, writing a blog.

2) If you had to think about your blog as a certain type of space what kind would it be? Is it a private space (like a locked diary hidden under your bed), a domestic space (like your house), a public space (like school or church), or a city space (like a crowded street where you don’t know too many people)? Or do you not think of it this way?

All of the above.

3) Do you have a goal for your blog? What is it?
None, I never thought it would go this far!

4) We think of a dreams as a measurement of how imbedded you are in something. For instance, when you start to learn a foreign language well you begin to dream in that language. Do you ever dream that you are blogging or having a conversation with someone through chat or email?

Never

5) What does your avatar or blog image say about you? Why did you choose it?

Globetrotting — a globe trekker at heart, I am fascinated by the wonders of the ancient world. I feel that life is too short and there are too many beautiful places to visit, therefore, it would be a waste if we do not find time to explore the ancient cities and experience the culture and the tradition of its people.

“Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”

Miriam Beard

6) What opportunities does blogging give you that you would not have if you did not blog?

Sharing your thoughts with others no matter the location, the language, religion or race.

7) What is satisfying to you about blogging?

Same as above

8) Do you ever use blog, chat, or internet services to find someone to date or flirt with online?

It happens, unintentionally!

Do you talk to the opposite sex more online or in person?

Hummm, I don’t know. About the same I guess.

9) If you knew that everyone in the world would read your blog today, what two sentences would you write?

Thanks for dropping by. Hope to hear from you again.

10) If you could change anything about your life or country what would it be?

Nothing, I guess. Country – it ain’t that bad, but I hope it’s cleaner!

11) Have you made any friends through your blog that you wouldn’t have in everyday life.

Yes and I have made more foreign friends than local ones!

12) Do you talk to people who have a different religions or culture than you on your blog or online?

I love culture, so I have no problem with that!

13) If you consider yourself to be Muslim, what is the hardest and best part about being a Muslim woman?

It’s difficult enough being a woman, what more a Muslim woman especially when you are headstrong and independent.

“About all you can do in life is be who you are. Some people will love you for you. Most will love you for what you can do for them, and some won’t like you at all.” Rita Mae Brown

14) Would you mind telling me your gender and age? Any other features of yourself you would like to reveal.—occupation, marital status, country of residence?

Female

15) Anything you would like to add or comment on? Any questions for me?

Good Luck in completing your research. I understand what you have to go through, collecting all these data! What is your area of study?

HELL, all THAT & MORE!

Highlander, this is for you ;). Since you’ve asked for it.

I feel rather NAKED without a bag to carry on my shoulder, no matter the size I’d always carry one, here’s the contents of my extra large bag I carry to work.

1) white leather – a gift from Japan. I could fit most things in it, including A4 sized files, if need be.

2) camera case – with Indian motif, obviously the camera is being used to capture this photo!

3) pencil case – I’ve had for, oh so long, I guess since I was back in the university, during my freshmen year! Most of my pens used are black, seldom use other coloured pens. This pencil case consist of only 1 mechanical pencil, blanco, metal ruler & 1 inkless fountain pen with my inscription @ name engraved on the pen cover.

4) cell phone – which I often switch off when I feel the need of peace & quiet

5) Hacks – licorice flavour, my ever relient sweets to keep me awake, but favourable by men mostly especially smokers!

6) OHP permanent markers – presentation purposes, just in case we need to use them. We still need them even in this day and age of advanced technology.

7) mp3 cum voice recorder

8) purse – money or no money, I need it as it holds my plastic money & driver’s license. I’ve forgotten to place my purse in my bag once or twice, & went to work without my driver’s license. Thank God, there wasn’t a road block @ anything serious happened on that particular day!

9) I.D card & lanyard – for working purposes, I hate putting on name tags

10) Lipstick & lip gloss – every woman needs them

11) mirror – just to keep descent & for touch ups

the notebook is just an accessory, I was in the middle of updating the anti-virus software. Notice, no key chains (car keys & house keys are not permanent features, they’ll be removed once I step into the house), sunglass is in the car. That reminds me I need to get a new pair of glasses, in case I lose my contact lens at work, to be kept in the bag.

With the new semester starting this week, it means that whatever time I have for myself will be occupied with assignments & readings. I know I dread to do this over and over again. I’ve already been assigned a ‘simple’ task for our Pragmatics class. I don’t think it’s simple at all. We were given 2 choices, choose one. You either observe and record a customer ordering food over the counter at a Fast food outlet or pretend that you’re looking for a home. One does not need to video record the latter. Aghh, I’ll just do the 1st one, I’ll ask a friend or a cuz of mine to record the whole thingie.

If you comment on this post:

1. I’ll respond with something random about you.
2. I’ll challenge you to try something.
3. I’ll pick a colour that I associate with you
4. I’ll tell you something I like about you.
5. I’ll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I’ll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I’ll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on yours

Your Fave Poem MEME

Thanks HIGLANDER

I had to choose between William Blake @ Emily Dickinson. Emily is well known for her dark poems, where as Blake’s poems centre around the change of an innocent child into someone who has been influenced by the ways of the world hence the Song of Innocence & Song of Experience.

Note: My fave poem is THE DIVINE IMAGE, but I love to share with you the accompanying poem from his Song Of Experience.

The Divine Image (Songs of Innocence) William Blake

To Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love
All pray in their distress;
An to these virtues of delight
Return their thankfulness.

For Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love
Is God, our father dear,
And Mercy, Pity, Peace, and Love
Is Man, his child and care.

For Mercy has a human heart,
Pity a human face,
And Love, the human form divine,
And Peace, the human dress.

Then every man, of every dime
That prays in his distress,
Prays to the human form divine,
Love, Mercy, Pity, Peace.

And all must love the human form,
In heathen, turk, or jew;
Where Mercy, Love & Pity dwell
There God is dwelling too.

The Human Abstract (Songs of Experience) – William Blake

Pity would be no more,
If we did not make somebody Poor:
And Mercy no more could be,
If all were as happy as we;

And mutual fear brings peace;
Till the selfish loves increase.
Then Cruelty knits a snare,
And spreads his baits with care.

He sits down with holy fears,
And waters the ground with tears:
Then Humility takes its root
Underneath his foot.

Soon spreads the dismal shade
Of Mystery over his head;
And the Catterpiller and Fly,
Feed on the Mystery.

And it bears the fruit of Deceit,
Ruddy and sweet to eat;
And the Raven his nest has made
In its thickest shade.

The Gods of the earth and sea,
Sought thro’ Nature to find this Tree
But their search was all in vain:
There grows one in the Human Brain

Anyone interested in sharing your fave poems? Then, you’ve been TAGGED! ;P
